Langtang is the popular trekking region in Nepal which lies to the North of Kathmandu and bordering Tibet. Most of the area of Langtang region is protected by Langtang National Park which also includes the high and panoromic peak Langtang Lirung (7246m). The most popular National park contains different kind of flora and fauna from sub tropical to alpine. Most of the areas of this park are forested and you will find varities of endangered wildlife.

The main ethnic groups of this region are Sherpa’s and Tamangs whose religion, culture, languages and dress are similar to that of the Tibetan people. Wild dog, red panda, pika, muntjac, musk deer, Himalayan black bear, Himalayan thar, ghoral, serow, rhesus monkey, common langur, snow leopard are the animals found in this park. Birds found here include hawks, hoopoe, cuckoos, barbets, owls, and night jars, laughing thrushes, black-capped sibias, red-billed, minvet. The flora includes sky blue gentians, epiphytic orchids and primroses.

Access to this region is easy and quick. Sundarijal, which is one of the most suitable starting points, is an hour’s drive from Kathmandu. For Langtang you have to drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche in Rasuwa district. The road then continues to Syabrubesi from where Ganesh Himal and Langtang treks can start. Hindu pilgrimage site and popular tourist place Gosainkunda also lies in this region which can be reached from either of the two routes. Every year many Hindu pilgrims visit this place to worship the lord Shiva. During full moon time in August many pilgrims from Nepal as well as India visit to this place. Other famous Lakes adjoining it are: Saraswoti, Bhairav, Sourya, Ganesh Kunda etc. Buses leave regularly from the Balaju Bypass every day.
