If you’ve trekked in the mountains, especially in the upper remote areas like Upper Mustang, you must have encountered kids returning from their school on a horse. Horses or ponies are the only means of transport for the people of the Tran Himalayan remote areas. Similarly, the traders use local asses to transport the daily needs. Even in the middle hills, horse riding is the only means of traveling long distances. There are two types of trails in the mountains the goreto(for humans) & the ghodeto(for horses). More often than not, you’re sure to take a horse ride, at least to carry your burden, along most of the trekking destinations.

Horse or Pony riding as a fun & adventure sports are also available in some tourist areas. For example, you can enjoy the lake city of Pokhara views on a pony ride. Even the local townspeople seem to enjoy taking a horse or pony ride for adventure. In the steep horse- ways of the high places, you’ll almost certainly marvel at the beast of burden’s sense of balance between the dangerous ridges on both sides.
