Besides, another name that connects Nepal with rest of the world is Lord Buddha. Lumbini is the birth place of Buddha and the city is about 180 km away from Kathmandu City. Visit to Lumbini alone is a tranquil and serene feeling. Major sites in Lumbini includes the birth place of Buddha, Maya Devi Temple, Scared Pond, King Ashok’s Pillar and many other monasteries & shrines erected by different Buddhist nations. Pokhara is the beautiful lakeside town in Nepal blessed by many natural wonders. It is also called ‘city of lakes’ and popular for spectacular Himalayan views. Fewa Lake, Begnas Lake, Gupteshwor Cave, Davis Fall, Tibetan Camp are the major tourist attractions of Pokhara. Pokhara is also the centre point for most of the trekking going to the Annapurna region. Towards the plains of Nepal popularly known as ‘Terai’ is the sub-tropical jungle and there exits the Chitwan National Park. With a total area of 932 sq. km, the park shelters many wild animals and mammals like deer, monkeys, crocodiles, leopards, Royal Bengal Tiger, elephants to name a few. Different species of butterflies, birds and wide range of flora & fauna can be found here. Nepal is the Himalayan Kingdom with over eight of the fourteen world’s highest mountains are located inside the country, so magnificent views of snow-capped mountains are regular sites here. There are many Himalayan vantage points from where spectacular panorama can be spotted. One such point is ‘Nagarkot’ which is about an hour’s drive from Kathmandu city and very popular for witnessing the Himalayas (including Mt. Everest if he day is clear).
