The helicopter ride furthers its flight towards Pheriche, passing over Tengboche.

Landing on Kalapatthar
A private charter helicopter flight with up to 2 passengers will land at Kalapatthar for 10 minutes. For a group helicopter flight of 5 passengers, the group will be split at Pheriche. Then the helicopter will do shuttle flights carrying the two split groups over Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar consecutively. Afterward, all 5 passengers will be flown to Syangboche at Everest View Hotel for breakfast.
For a group helicopter flight of 4 passengers, the flight will be seamless. From Lukla the helicopter will directly fly to the Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar and return directly to the Lukla. No stops.

Afterward, the helicopter will fly you to Kalapatthar where the aircraft will land for 10 minutes to let you enjoy the view of Mt. Everest up close, soak in natural beauty, and take pictures and videos.
The stop is only 10 minutes because a longer stay can cause altitude sickness, which can be lethal. After 10 minutes, the helicopter will fly towards Syangboche.
Phase IV: Syangboche Land. Breakfast at Everest View Hotel.
The helicopter lands at Syangboche near Hotel Everest View. Everest View Hotel is officially a record holder for the Hotel at the Highest Altitude. Besides the record, the hotel is best known for the amazing view of Mt. Everest and adjoining peaks from its balcony. It is a popular place amongst trekkers and tourers to have breakfast while enjoying the view of the tallest point on the planet.
Based on the helicopter tour package the breakfast might or might not be included. The breakfast can cost anywhere around 35-40 USD at Everest View Hotel, which is well worth it considering the remoteness and location of the establishment.
After having a hearty breakfast the aircraft will begin its flight back to Kathmandu.

Phase V: Refuel Stop at Lukla. Fly Back to Kathmandu.
The flight will stop once again at Lukla before heading towards Kathmandu. You will once again get to relish the scenery and mountain views on your flight back to Kathmandu.
The helicopter will land at Tribhuvan International Airport concluding the Helicopter Tour. Afterward, you will be chauffeured to the hotel of your stay.
Note: The flight procession of the Helicopter tour is always changing and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal and flight operators are the ones responsible for making these changes. Based on the changes, the itinerary for the helicopter flights to EBC could be different for different pax numbers. That is the itinerary for 2 pax could be different from the itinerary for 5 pax. So, we strongly advise readers to contact the tour agency with which you will be doing the Helicopter tour and ask for a detailed itinerary that includes stops during the tour. The helicopter might not land at Kalapatthar according to the procession that is being regulated at that specific time. Ascertain that you will be getting what you are paying for. You can contact Breakfree Adventures prior to your tour to know about the procession that is being regulated for free.
How Safe is the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour?
Any air travel is never without risk. It stands true for the helicopter flight to Everest Base Camp as well. Especially, with helicopter flights, which, unlike Airplanes, hovers just 200-800 meters above the solid ground, the chances of accidents are high. The unforgiving rugged hilly geography of Nepal adds to the existing difficulty of capricious weather conditions to operate helicopter flights.
There have been records of helicopter accidents with injuries and fatalities. These air mishaps are caused in most cases by adverse weather conditions and poor visibility, and in a few cases caused by mismanagement and technical errors.
However, in the grand scheme of things, statistically Helicopter flights are very safe. Indeed safer than treks if we consider fatality numbers. Yearly, more than 1500 helicopter flights are operated in the Everest region. Commercial Tour flights, rescue flights, and Cargo flights. The proportion of the total number of helicopter accidents to the total number of flight hours operated in the Everest Region hovers around the normal, which means helicopter flights are not as common as they seem to be.
The last helicopter accident in Everest occurred on Oct 2023, there were no fatalities. After this, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal made significant reparations on safety and monitoring regulations to prevent future mishaps.
Now, helicopter flight operators have to go through rigorous checks along with optimum flying conditions before operating the helicopter flights. Since then, no helicopter accidents have happened as responsible authorities and institutes are diligently working together to make Nepali air space safer.
Even with the operator with a statistically perfect flight record, there is always a small risk of mishaps. It is similar to a helicopter flight to the Everest Base Camp. But be assured that unless the circumstances and conditions are not optimum your helicopter flight will not take off, for your safety.
