Everest Classic (Jiri to EBC) Trek

The Everest Classic (Jiri to EBC) Trek is one of the oldest trekking routes in the Everest region. The route is comprised of wide ranges of scenic views all the along the ways.  Trekking in the Everest region is a life time dream for passionate trekkers as the quest goes to the Everest base camp situated at an elevation of 5,380m above the sea level. The trials to the enthralling place are comprised of climbs and descend that traverse lush low land, alpine forests, glaciers, rivers, Buddhist monasteries, temples, and authentic Sherpa Villages.  The classic route to Everest Base Camp trekking is invented to fulfill the desire of trekkers looking for ultimate adventure experience in Himalayas as the trails are loaded with the panoramic views of majestic mountains adding glitters to the splendid beauty of the region.

The classic route was brought into effect by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgey Sherpa who first atop Mt. Everest.  Before the construction of an airport in Lukla, the classic route was the only source for Everest expeditions from the 1950s through the 70s. Walking on this traditional route is like following the foot prints of the legendary mountaineers of the history. The classic journey starts from Jiri situated at an altitude of 6,250 feet which leads towards Bhandar, Sete, Junbesi villages by traversing many rivers, streams, forests, villages and valleys towards Namche bazaar based at an elevation 3,436m, also known as the gateway of the Everest base camp trekking. The trek further enhances towards the Sagarmatha National Park which is a habitat for different varieties of floras and faunas before reaching the base camp at Kala Patthar which provides a splendid 360-degree panoramic view of the world’s tallest mountains.  Everest base camp trekking via classic route is the dream of every trekking fonder who want to explore the great Himalayas.

Day 01 : Arrive in Kathmandu

After landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu from your designated destinations, you will be received by a representative of the travel company at the arrival gate who will then transfer you to you allotted hotels.  If the time persists, you can either visit the city or relax at the hotel to overcome your jet lag. O/N at Hotel.

Day 02 : Kathmandu Sightseeing and trek preparation

The Kathmandu sightseeing trip will begin in the morning. After breakfast, you will be taken towards Kathmandu Durbar (Palace) Square, one of the heritage sites where you can view many historical and cultural monuments. Later, you will visit another heritage site known as Pashupatinath Temple. This is a sacred Hindu Temple of Lord Shiva named which is always crowded by Hindu pilgrims. After lunch, visit to Buddhist pilgrimage Swoyambhunath (famous by the name of Monkey temple among tourists) will be carried forward. Likewise, Boudhanath Shrine will be covered by the evening.  After concluding the sightseeing, there will be seminar for you to attend to discuss about the upcoming trekking plans. O/N at Hotel

Day 03 : Kathmandu to Jiri (2100m) 8-9 hours

The trek to classic Everest route will start with a drive to Jiri from Kathmandu via Araniko highway. During this 8-9 hours, you can see the scenic suburbs and countryside of Nepal. After you reach Jiri, you can go around the beautiful hill city to make the most of your remaining time in the day.  O/N at Lodge

Day 04 : Jiri to Bhandar (2,250m) 6-7 hours

On the day, you will start hiking on undulated tracks towards Bhandar, a small settlement in the region. The settlement is habitat of mostly Sherpa people where you can see huge Tibetan Buddhist monuments all over the place. You will reach your destination of the day by the evening. O/N at Lodge

Day 05 : Bhandar to Sete (2575m) 6-7 hours

Walking downhill towards Likhu Khola, on the day, you will proceed towards a small village of Kinja.  From this point, the trails ascend to Lamura pass which is loaded with picturesque views of surrounding landscapes. After passing few more villages, you will reach Sete, situated on the ridge in the middle of the rhododendron forest. O/N at Lodge

Day 06 : Sete to Junbesi (2675m) 6-7 hours

This is going to be an exciting day as you start the trip with an ascent towards Lamjura pass at 3,530m.This is the highest point between Jiri and Namche Bazaar.  After leaving the Lamjura behind, you will have to walk though aromatic rhododendron forest to reach Junbesi, a well known Sherpa village in the region.  O/N at Lodge

Day 07 : Junbesi to Nuntala (2250m) 5-6 hours

Crossing Junbesi River by embarking on a wooden bridge the expedition towards Nuntala will follow in the morning. In between the routes, you will see the glimpses of Mt. Everest on the north east side. The trails lead to shepherds’ huts and the hidden routes via forests to reach Nunthala.  O/N at Lodge

Day 08 : Nuntala to Bupse (2300m) 5-6 hours

The day’s hike will start with a steep descent towards Dudh Koshi River to reach Jublingn. From the point, the trail descends further to reach another river on the way named as Khari Khola.  You will have to follow a steep climb of an hour to get to Bupse for an overnight stay.  O/N at Lodge

Day 09 : Bupse to Shurkha (2740m) 5-6 hours

The day will start with a further climb through small valleys and forests to reach Mushe. The more you climb the vivid the views of Khumbilia and Cho Oyu get along the way.  Once again, you have to walk uphill to reach Shurkha. O/N at Lodge

Day 10 : Shurkha to Phakding (2640m) 5-6 hours

Passing beautiful Sherpa villages, on the day, you will head towards Phakding. This is a scenic route with the panoramic views of mountains all along the way.  You will meet many trekkers coming from Lukla as this is the orthodox route for Mt. Everset exploration. You should reach Phakding before sunset.  O/N at Lodge

Day 11 : Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m) 5-6 hours

From Phakding, the route gets a head start by crossing suspension bridges on the Dudh Koshi River towards Namche Bazaar.  On the way, you will pass by the Sagarmatha National Park where you could see varieties of floras and faunas. Soon, you will have to make a descent towards Jorsalle village crossing Bhote- Koshi River through a suspension bridge. You will reach Namche Bazaar, the main trading town also known as the gateway to Mt. Everest in the Khumbu Region before sunset.  O/N at Lodge

Day 12 : Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar, hike to Everest view hotel (3900m) 3-4 hours

Getting acclimatized is very important while embarking on the high altitude trek. For the purpose, the day is reserved for the acclimatization process where you will spend a full day to get used to the altitude and the environment of higher altitude places. After lunch, you will be taken for a short hike towards Everest view hotel. From the hotel premises you can see the panoramic view of the Everest region. O/N at Lodge

Day 13 : Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3850m) 5-6 hours

The day will start with a hike towards Tengboche traversing different forests. The route offers magnificent views of mountains like Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Kwangde peak. After reaching Tengboche, you will visit Tengboche Monastery which is renowned as one of the famous monasteries in the region.  The monastery is situated in a beautiful location from where you could witness amazing sceneries. O/N at Lodge

Day 14 : Tengboche to Dingboche (4410m) 5-6 hours

The day’s trek will proceed towards Dingboche also known as Summer Valley. The route will start by descending through rhododendron forests to reach the village of Pangboche.  After few hours of hike, you will reach Dingboche, a small village in the Chukhung Valley. O/N at Lodge

Day 15 : Dingboche to Lobuche (4930m) 5-6 hours

Climbing through Duglha via Khumbu Khola Valley, on the day, you will proceed towards Lobuche.  Descending via Duglha village, you will reach Lobuche before sunset.  O/N at Lodge

Day 16 : Lobuche to Gorak Shep & hike to Everest Base Camp (5,320m) to Gorak Shep 6-7 hours

This is going to be one of the most exciting days in the trek as it leap your steps towards the Everest Base Camp.  You will have to make some steep ascent towards the base camp. However, during the climb, you can enjoy the natural splendor of Khumbu Glacier and ice fall from the base camp site.  Also, you will have to pass over rocky dunes, moraine and streams to make you way towards the base camp. After a brief stay at the amazing high altitude site, also known as the point form of Everest expedition, you will have to hike backwards on the earlier route until you reach Gorak Shep. O/N at Lodge

Day 17 : Gorak Shep to Kala Pathar (5550m) to Pangboche 5-6 hours

On the day, you will hike towards Kala Pathar known for offering splendid 360-degree panoramic view of the world’s tallest mountains including Mt. Everest.  At the Kala Pathar site, you can enjoy mesmerizing views of snow laden giants over your head. After getting enthralled at the amazing place for some time, the trek descends to Pangboche via Gorak Shep. O/N at Lodge

Day 18 : Pangboche to Namche Bazaar 5-6 hours

From Pangboche, you will head towards Namche Bazaar. You will reach Namche Bazaar, the main trading town also known as the gateway to Mt. Everest in the Khumbu Region before sunset.  O/N at Lodge

Day 19 : Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2800m) 5-6 hours

This is the final day of the trek as you prepare yourself to hike to Lukla following the lower altitude trail in the Everest region. Traversing various Sherpa settlements, and hiking past some dense forest area covered by beautiful rhododendron and pine trees, you will slowly proceed towards Lukla. On the way, you will also see few monasteries that resemble unique Buddhist culture and tradition. You will reach Lukla before sunset.  O/N at Lodge

Day 20 : Lukla to Kathmandu (flight) 40 min

You have completed your trekking as you wait to board a Kathmandu bound flight from Lukla. You excitement level will proliferate as the plane flies between hills before it reaches to a required elevation. The 40 minutes flight will also give you a bird’s eye view of glorious Kathmandu city by the time it prepares to land. After landing at the Tribhuvan airport, the company representative will transfer you to you designated hotels.  The remaining day in the capital city will be all yours. You can do whatever you like.  You can relax at the hotel or visit markets for the final day shopping. O/N at Hotel

Day 21 : Transfer to the Airport for your onward destination

As per your flight timings, you will be escorted by one of the representatives of Breakfree Adventures to the international terminal at the Tribhuvan International Airport approximately three hours before your flight schedule from your hotel in Kathmandu. A day to bid farewell to the glorious country situated in the South Asia. While waiting for your flight, you can make plans to venture other destinations of the majestic country in near future.
