Namtso Lake Trek involves trekking and driving through the Tibetan plateau. Day 01 : Arrive Lhasa

Arrive Lhasa and our local representative will meet/greet you at the airport then transfer to your hotel as booked. Full day is rest for acclimatization. Overnight at Hotel (Lhasa.

Day 02/03 : Lhasa – Sightseeing

The next two days is reserved for city tour around Lhasa where you will be visiting several historical and religious monasteries and temples. Various landmarks are covered during the sightseeing like Jokhang temple, Sera & Drepung monasteries including Potala Palace and the Barkhor Market.

Jokhang temple was built in 7th centuary and has a huge statue of Buddha and the temple is considered holliest in Tibet. The monasteries of Sera and Drepung were established in 1419, and are huge white Buddhist temples in the foot of a rocky hill. Back in the early days, Drepung monastery use to house 8000 monks for teaching traditions of Vajrayana, Mahayana and Sutrayana, the three vehicles of Tibetan Buddhism. Potala Palace, the most important tourist attraction of Tibet, has 13 stories with 1000 rooms. The palace houses and is decorated with hundreds of Thanka paintings, frescos and images of hundreds of years ago. Later on, return back to hotel. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 04 : Drive to Damsung & being trek

Today begins the trek where after breakfast you will drive to Yangpachen along the Tibet-Qinghai highway then further to Damsung located at an altitude of 4130 meters. It’s a short hike today through the beautiful Tibetan meadow en-route visiting a monastery and camp. Overnight at Camp.

Day 05 : Trek (7-8 hrs)

Today’s trek is for about 7-8 hours. The trail passes through glaciated valley and herder’s camp where the camp will be set. Overnight at Camp.

Day 06 : Trek (6-7 hrs)

The trial descends to border basins and you will trek along green Tibetan meadows. Cross the Konga la at which point spectacular view of Namtso lake and Nyenchen Thangla ranges can be spotted.  Overnight Camp.

Day 07 : To Tashi Do and Namtso Lake (7-8 Hrs)

Today pass along the nomadic camps and see their herds of animals hiking cross green carpet of grass. Lunch by the side of the lake and then follow the jeep trail till Tashi Do hermitage and camp at the end of the day. Overnight Camp.

Day 08 : Rest and exploration day at Tashi Do

Explore around Tashi Do Hermitage and Namtso Lake. Overnight Camp.

Day 09 : Namtso - Lhasa

This day drive back to Lhasa via Yangbachen. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 10 : Lhasa-Gyangtse (3990 m), 350 kms

After breakfast, drive to the turquoise lake via Yamdrok to Gyangtse crossing Kampa La pass (5050m) and Karo la pass (5045m). Also visit Kubum Stupa and Pelkor Chode Monastery. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 11 : Gyangtse-Shalu-Shigatse (3860 m), 90 kms

Drive to Shigatse en-route visit Shalu monastery Tashihunpo monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama who is considered the second highest Buddhist tutor in Tibet after Dalai Lama. Overnight at

Day 12 : Shigatse-Sakya-Shegar/Dingri(4350 m)

Today cross the Tsoula pass (4500m) and Gyatso la pass (5220m) and drive towards Shegar. En-route you will pay a visit to Sakya monastery. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 13 : Shegar-Rongbuk(5050m)

This day drive to the world’s highest monastery ‘Rongbuk monastery’ located at an altitude of 5200 meters. To reach the monastery you will have to drive past Pangla pass (5200m). Overnight at Guest House.

Day 14 : Rongbuk-Nylam

Witness the spectacular panorama of the sunrise over Mt. Everest from Rongbuk which is just about 4 km away from the northern base camp of Everest. Afterwards, drive to Nyalam and rest for the night. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 15 : Nylam-Zhangmu-Kathmandu

The final day of the tour and you will drive from Nyalam to Zhangmu, the border town between Nepal and Tibet. En-route visit the Milarepa cave, After clearing the immigration formalities at the border drive towards Kathmandu over a lush green landscape.

Clothing
The climate of the Tibet fluctuates continuously so it is better to carry warm clothes. If you just want to trek or tour at a lower altitude, fleece jackets and pants are enough. While for a higher altitude trekking, down jackets are necessary.

When is the best time to visit Tibet?
The best time to visit Tibet is from April to November as the weather will be cold from December to February.

Will high altitude be a problem for me?
High altitude sickness is a main issue while traveling to Tibet. Tibet has average altitude of 4000m so people with heart or lung problems are strictly advised to consult their physician before traveling to Tibet. People with normal fitness are also advised to follow the instruction given in the pre-departure briefing.

How to get Tibet Travel Permit?
Travel permit to Tibet is issued by Tibet Tourism Administration. The copy of your passport and Chinese visa, together with other information such as your occupation should be provided in order to apply for the permit. You can take help from your local travel agency.

Can I travel with my kids?
The cities like Lhasa, Shigatse or Gyantse can be traveled with the kids. However traveling to Mt. Kailash or other remote regions with your kids is not advised.

Are there ATM facilities in Tibet?
Yes the major cities in Tibet provide the facilities of ATM.

How to get into Tibet?
There is only one international flight to Tibet which is from Kathmandu (Nepal). Overland tour to Tibet is also possible from Nepal. Domestic flights are available from most cities of China like Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Kunming, Chongqing and Guangzhou.

Is individual travel possible in Tibet?
Yes it is possible to travel alone, but restrictions are imposed on travel to many areas.

What should I pack for Tibet?
While traveling in Tibet Sunglass, Sunhat, Good walking shoes, sleepers, warm enough clothes are recommended.

What happens if I get Sick?
We advise you to keep basic medicines with you. Our guide will also take basic medicines. If you get altitude sickness during the travel please inform your guide in time so that a timely precaution can be taken. In case of serious condition you will be taken to hospital of Lhasa or Kathmandu.

Can I get laundry facility at hotel?
You get this facility mostly in three star or above hotels. There are few laundry outlets in the cities but not outside the cities

Is communication to home possible while on trek? What about internet?
There are telephone facilities in cities as well as in the villages at many places , from where you can make international calls. Internet facility is available in the cities. You can also use your mobile phone at most part of Tibet .
