Major Attractions of the Bardiya Jungle Adventure Tour
Bardiya National Park and Bengal Tiger Sighting Opportunity
Bardiya National Park, established in 1988 was formerly used as hunting grounds for Royalties and Officers of East Indian Company. During the occupation of Bardiya district by the East India Company large numbers of Bengal Tiger were hunted down, an attempt to recover from which is still going on. Bardiya National Park covers an area of 968 sq km with more than 70% of its area being covered with forest.
The flourishing diversity of the National Park is evident with the presence of 839 floral species and 642 faunal species. The national park is a habitat to at least 53 species of mammals, 407 species of Birds, 23 species of Reptiles, and 125 species of fish on the river system that can be found inside National Park.
Bardia National Park is renowned amongst wildlife photographers, researchers, scientists, and vacationers for it provides a chance to spot the Bengal Tiger. Bardiya National Park has the highest tiger density per sq km amongst any other national park in Nepal. The dream of witnessing the majestic predator, untamed in the wild can become a reality during this tour. Jeep Safari, Elephant Safari, and Canoe Ride reach deeper sections of the National Park which increases the chances of Tiger sightings.
Canoe Ride on Babai River
Canoe riding is one of the amazing ways besides jeep and elephant safari to experience the beauty and exuberance of nature that have flourished in Bardiya National Park. Babai River passes centrally through Bardiya National Park, which provides an opportunity to optimally observe the flora and fauna of the national park.
The canoe ride is usually done in a small narrow wooden canoe made from a single tree trunk; however, an inflated rubber raft can also be used. The canoe ride lasts all day, so travelers will have plenty of time to see different species of Birds, Bengal tiger, and Gharials which are found only in this part of the globe, deer, one-horned rhinoceros, and rare freshwater dolphin.
The river unlike many other rivers has calm and slow-moving torrents, which is perfect for a relaxing canoe ride through the national park. We strongly recommend individuals to compulsorily use sunblock, full sleeves, and hats that protect travelers from harmful UV rays.
Jungle Walk and Crocodile Breeding Center
Jungle Walk is probably the most amazing and thrilling way to experience the intrinsic beauty of Bardiya National Park. The jungle walk allows tourists to explore the southwestern part of the Bardiya National Park. A full-day jungle walk requires travelers to cover a distance of 15-20 km walking through bushes and river banks to catch sight of the elusive Bengal Tiger, One Horned Rhinoceros, and other rare and exotic animals.
Tourists will be accompanied by National Park Guides and Wildlife Tracker. The guides and instructor will enlighten tourists about different flora and fauna that one might find during the jungle walk. Tourists will spend time on watch towers to get an overlooking view of the surrounding and river banks to catch a glimpse of magnificent animals drinking water from the river.
Crocodile Breeding in Bardiya National Park is one of the major attractions of the entire tour. Here, a unique species of Gharials and mugger crocodiles are bred to reverse their declining numbers. These species of Crocodiles are found only in south-eastern Asia and play a major role in maintaining balance in the ecosystem.
Elephant & Jeep Safari
Elephant & Jeep Safari is the most chosen way of touring the Bardiya National Park by internal and external tourists.
During Elephant Safari tourists will be seated on the wooden platform on the elephant’s back with hands on the wooden railing. The Maute, who is an elephant trainer will then guide the elephant through a thick dense forest. As the Elephant meanders through the thick bushes, tourists will get a chance to observe untamed animals in their wild habitat. Wild animals are unperturbed by approaching elephants as elephants are themselves wild animals, so the elephant safari increases the sighting of elusive wild animals.
Jeep Safari is yet another mesmerizing way to explore the national park. A jeep with an elevated seating platform and no roof is used for the Jeep safari. The guides and drivers are cognizant of the hotspots and pasture lands that will take tourists to such spots and turn off the engine to not disturb the grazing, hunting, or mating animals. The jeep safari can last a whole day or for half of the day depending upon your itinerary.
Make sure you bring your binoculars or camera with a telephoto lens to lucidly spot and observe rare and exotic fauna.
Tharu Village Excursion
Tharu Community is one of the Indigenous communities found in the western region of Terai, that have coexisted with nature for hundreds of years. Their culture, tradition, beliefs, cuisines, dances, folk songs, and various such aspects are fascinating displays of their resilience, unadulterated exuberance, and perseverance.
Tharu Villages are characterized by small roofed huts with vibrant paintings on the walls. One can observe traditional tools and handicrafts hung from the wooden beams. Most of the Tharu people are farmers, who were, 40-50 years back, marginalized and oppressed. Their culture, tradition, and lifestyle reflect the hardships and perseverance that kept them going and overcoming such difficult situations.
Tharu community has preserved its culture and tradition and now welcomes the world to enjoy its simple yet content way of life. Vivid pictures on the walls, mesmerizing dances, fascinating folk songs, and performances around bonfires astound tourists from all over the world.
