Overview

Ganden Samye Trek is an exhilarating tour combined with trekking that visits the ancient city of Lhasa then hike around Ganden and Samye. The trekking involved is a mild hiking program and also a guided city tour of Lhasa visiting it’s popular monasteries and shrines like Potala palace, Sera & Drepung monasteries, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor market. This trek is suitable for any beginners trekkers, families, or school level students. The places you visit and trek around give you a full insight into the ancient Tibetan art and culture including it’s amazing architecture and traditional crafts. The program begins with a scenic flight over the world’s highest mountain series towards the ancient city of Lhasa. Explore Lhasa with a guided city tour that goes around for three days then drive to Ganden and begin the trek that ends with visiting Samye Monastery then drive to Tsedang, spend two nights to eventually drive to Goggar airport to catch your onward flight back home or to your other planned destination.

Itinerary

Fly past the world’s tallest mountains series towards the Goggar airport. Upon arrival you will be met by our representatives and drive to Lhasa and check-in hotel. The first day in Lhasa is to rest at the hotel to get better acclimatize to Lhasa’s high altitude and to be prepare for the upcoming tour and trek. Overnight at Hotel.

After breakfast proceed for full day sightseeing of Potala Palace, and & Norbulinka. Potala Palace, this legendary palace built atop a single hill is synonymous with Tibet by the first foremost king Songtsen Gompa. Norbulingka meaning ‘Treasure Park’ covers an area of around 360000 sq. m. and is considered to be the biggest man made garden in Tibet. After sightseeing you will be transferred to hotel for your Overnight at hotel in Lhasa.

After breakfast full day sightseeing of Sera Monastery, Jokhang Monastery, Barkhor Market. Sera Monastery, 5 Kms north of Lhasa, Sera setting is one of Lhasa’s prettiest monasteries. Once a community of more than 5,000 monks resided here and was virtually extinguished by the Chinese. Jokhang Temple, situated in the heart of Old Lhasa, it houses Tibet’s most precious religious relic, a golden Shakyamuni Buddha which was brought as a gift by the Chinese Princess Wen Cheng on the occasion of her wedding to the Tibetan King, Songtsen Gompo. Barkhor Market place, which is the religious and social focus of Lhasa. After Sightseeing you will be transferred to hotel for your Overnight at hotel in Lhasa.

After breakfast, visit Tibetan Medical Institute. Afternoon free for shopping or other activities on your own. Overnight at hotel in Lhasa.

After breakfast, drive from Lhasa to Ganden. In Ganden, visit the Ganden Monastery which is one of the three great monasteries of Tibet (other being Sera & Drupung). It was built in 1409 by Je Tsongkhapa Lozang-dragpa and though destroyed after 1959, it has since been partially rebuilt. Afterwards, being the trek to Hebu Valley. It’s a short trek today in the beautiful Tibetan landscape and camp. Overnight Camp.

Today the trek is towards Shogarla pass from Hebu Valley. En-route the Tibetan plateau is very picturesque during the sunset. Overnight Camp.

The trek today is from Shgarla pass to Gambala. It’s a day’s trek and then arrives at the riverside where camp will be set. Explore around the riverside during the evening. Overnight Camp.

Trek towards Molong from Gambala. The Trek today is about 6-7 hours then call it a day and camp. Overnight Camp.

After breakfast start the trek from Molong to Samya. Upon reaching Samye pay a visit to the Samye Monastery, the most popular and one of the biggest monasteries in Tibet. After exploring around the monastery drive the same day to Tsedang and check-in hotel. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 10 :
In Tsedang

There’s a great deal to explore around Tsedang where you will visit Tandruk monastery. Then stay one more night at Tsedang. Overnight at Hotel.

The last day of the tour and you will be transferred to the Goggar Airport for your fly back home or to your other planned onward destination.

Clothing
The climate of the Tibet fluctuates continuously so it is better to carry warm clothes. If you just want to trek or tour at a lower altitude, fleece jackets and pants are enough. While for a higher altitude trekking, down jackets are necessary.
