Best Time to do Ghorepani Poonhill Trek:

While trekking in the Himalayas weather is the crucial factor. The same applies to the Ghorepani Poonhill Trek. Though the trek can be done around the year, the best time to trek Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is spring (Mar-May) and autumn (Mid-Sep to Mid-Nov) seasons. But for any explorer and travel enthusiast, Dhampus Sarangkot Trek can be done in winter or monsoon as well.

March-May (spring)

Spring (March-May) is one of the most suitable times for the Ghorepani Poonhill Trek. The climate is mild with low rainfall in this season and the perfect time for trekking. The daily temperature will be between 18°C to 25°C. March-May marks the withdrawal of the winter season, it starts to get warmer as the daytime begins to lengthen. The skies are clearer, offering you an unobstructed mountain view. As spring marks a time of rebirth and regeneration, you can see farmers working in their farmlands for the new agricultural season. You can witness Rhododendron bloom while traversing through the forest during your trail.

June to August (Monsson)

The monsoon in Nepal is from June to August which is also the monsoon. The temperature is warmer but this region also receives the highest rainfall during monsoon which makes the trails wet and slippery. Day temperatures normally range from 20°C to 28°C and get comparatively colder at night (12°C to 15°C). Due to monsoon, the skies might not be clear which might restrict you from getting mountain views but the vegetation is in full bloom, and the forests and farmlands are as green as they could get during these times.

Monsoon is relatively not preferred by travelers to embark on the Ghorepani Poonhill Trek Trail as the continuous downpour during the day can cause landslides, flash floods, etc. totally ruining your trekking experience.

September to November (Autumn)

September, October, and November are the autumn seasons in Nepal. It’s another great season to trek. Moderate temperatures, mild wind, and low precipitation mean the weather will be most pleasant for trekking the region. The sun will be shining brightly with clear skies and give you clear mountain views. By September monsoon will be over and days will be mild to warm. Daytime temperatures can reach up to 27°C. Nights are colder with temperatures around 10°C.

December to February (Winter)

December to February marks the winter region in Nepal. The days are colder with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 15°C and nights are even colder with temperatures ranging from -2°C to 5°C. Since there will be no rainfall during winter the trail will be dry and easy to walk on. Unlike, trekking in high altitudes, Ghorepani Poonhill Trekking can be done in winter without any issue. The chance of snowing during winter is low, but even if it snows, it would rather add beauty to the trail than cause problems. Loshar celebrated by Gurung people falls during this time of year, you can plan your trip to witness the charm of local culture. The skies are also clear, offering you a breathtaking mountain view.

All in all, you can do the Ghorepani Poonhill Trek from December to February or winter. Winter is a favorable time of the year to embark on the Ghorepani Poonhill Trek.

Travel Insurance:

Travel insurance is highly recommended and Breakfree Adventure encourages every tourist to subscribe an insurance should you be going trekking, rafting, paragliding, etc. We require that, at a minimum, you are covered for personal injury, medical expenses, repatriation expenses, helicopter rescue, loss of luggage, etc. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment, loss of luggage, and personal effects. Please check with your insurance company that adventure activities and trekking above 3,000m/9,842ft are covered in your policy, as some companies do not cover such things. You must carry proof of insurance (e.g. your insurance certificate) with you on the holiday; if you cannot provide this at the start of the holiday, you will be required to take out a suitable policy at that time.

Hotels and Meals during Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek:

In Kathmandu, we use 3 3-star hotels but can upgrade upon request. During the Ghorepani Poonhill Trek, we lodge our clients in the best hotels in all the checkpoints. The Hotels and lodges found throughout the trail are more luxurious and have all the modern facilities than tea houses found on high-altitude trekking trail. The rooms can be private or on a twin basis depending upon the hotel. If you are traveling in a group, you will share a room with someone else of the same gender from your group. If you prefer a single room, you may indicate your preference on request and pay a supplement. Keep in mind that, during peak season you are less likely to get single accommodations, but we will try our best to accommodate your preferences if possible. In this arrangement overnight stays with dinner and breakfast will be in Hotels/Lodges and lunches in local restaurants en route. Furthermore, as you will be staying in locally owned lodges you will be benefiting and interacting with the local community. It will give you a true feel for the Nepalese people and their lives.

We provide quality food in sufficient quantities (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) from guesthouses chosen from a menu. While Ghorepani Poonhill Trek, your guide will help with menu selection and ensure that you get the best value meals possible. Although the food is usually plentiful and delicious, you should be aware that the menu is not normally extensive due to the extreme locations. Most teahouses offer a variety of rice and noodle dishes, as well as soup and seasonal vegetables. A variety of cereals, bread, and egg dishes are generally available for breakfast. There will also be plenty of snacks available such as biscuits, chocolate, and soft drinks and in some areas, you will find fresh fruit in season. You can buy bottled mineral water from local lodges and shops or you can also ask your guide to fill your water bottle with boiled water and treat it with water purification pills.

Museums and Tourist Attractions in Ghandruk

Ghorepani Poonhill Trek trail also passes through Ghandruk, a quintessential Gurung village with a mesmerizing backdrop of Annapurna. In Ghandruk, you can find a museum that showcases the culture, history, and traditions of the Gurung people of Ghandruk Village. You can amuse yourself by visiting these museums and getting to know about the fascinating culture and history of the Gurung people. Old Gurung Museum is one of the most visited museums showcasing tools used by Gurung people, traditional crafts, basketry, and many more. You can also try out Gurung attire while visiting these museums, which might cost you an extra charge of $2-$5, and photograph yourself beautifully in the amazing backdrop of Annapurna Massif and surrounding mountain peaks. Some restaurants serve modern and local cuisines you can choose from depending upon your choice and shops from where you can buy souvenirs and gifts for yourself or family and friends.

Fitness and Experience Required:

Our 10-day Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is an easy trek suitable for passionate walkers who can walk at least 4-5 hours a day with a light day pack. Walking at higher altitudes is more physically demanding than walking at lower altitudes; however, if you are in excellent health with average physical fitness and have a positive attitude, self-confidence, and strong determination, you can accomplish the 08 days Ghorepani Poonhill Trek successfully without any issue. Exercising and jogging regularly for some weeks before the trip is a good idea to enhance your strength and stamina. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood disease should inform us before booking the trek.

The Trekking Group for Ghorepani Poonhill Trek:

For the Ghorepani Poonhill Trek, there will be one Guide, an assistant Guide (8 trekkers: 1 assistant guide), and porters for luggage carrying (2 trekkers: 1 porter). This arrangement ensures that should anybody in the group be sick, the trip can still go ahead as planned. We can run the Ghorepani Poonhill Trek for groups of any size, but generally have a maximum of sixteen people, as we’ve found this to be the optimum size for a successful trip. Climate and Weather:

The climate of Nepal is as varied as its geography. The low-lying Terai has a sub-tropical monsoonal climate. The Himalayan foothills, where most of our treks take place, are best in the cool dry season from September to May. The traditional trekking season in Nepal is late September to December, with October and November generally recognized as having the best weather. Spring is also a popular time of year with warmer weather and the advantage of seeing spring flowers and rhododendrons in bloom. The visibility is good and days are pleasantly warm, although nights can be cold, and snow is possible above 3,000 meters or 9,842 feet.

Himalayan weather can be unpredictable where nights are generally cooler and days warmer. It’s a bit colder during the winter season (Jan to Feb) but days can be quite warm and lovely if the sun is shining. You can expect a bit of snow in January/February and December. Expect the unexpected! The temperature could be as high as 20 deg C to -15 deg C low.

Safety and Security:

Nepal is one of the safest countries to travel with friendly, hospitable, and welcoming people. We advise our clients not to trespass in the restricted area, not to use and possess illegal substances, and not to offend/disrespect local culture, tradition, and belief. Avoid any kind of confrontation with local people or authorities and don’t lose your calm.
