Glimpse of Chitwan is an itinerary package in which you get to take some jungle related activities for one night and two days in Chitwan. The activities that you are involved in while here are jungle safaris on an elephant back, bird watching, canoe rides, visit a Tharu village, visit an elephant breeding centre, cultural activities from the Tharus and much more.

The jungle safari tour which you do is in Chitwan, a wildlife sanctuary that is in the mid centre of Nepal in what is known as Terai. This wildlife sanctuary like any other in the country gives sanctuary in its natural state to animals and birds in what one can call, its natural state so much so it allows for those animals that are on the verge of extinction to begin living as they normally would. As the Chitwan sanctuary can now boast that it has allowed the royal Bengal tiger to make it home. The increase in the number of animal species has also increased. This is provided by the frequent sighting of other animals while taking safaris on elephant back into the jungle. Then there are the freshwater crocodiles in the two rivers that run through the territory of the national park. So much so that Jungle Safari tours in Chitwan is a highly flavoured activity.

Highlights

There is much to gain from taking this short trip to Chitwan where you get to see animals, birds and do some activities there. The first you being brought from your location and dropped back to your location in a tourist bus the next day. Then you reside one night in a comfortable three-star hotel. You do such activities as bird watching on the day you return just before boarding the bus. The day you get there, you visit a Tharu village, then go to an elephant breeding centre, have a bath with an elephant. Then you take a jungle safari trip on the back of an elephant and watch a cultural show in a Tharu Village at dusk. Even though the time seems short you are offered sufficient to make your time there engaging. If you like to spend a longer duration of time in Chitwan, you might consider take the longer ones such as Chitwan Wildlife Safari and Chitwan Luxury Tour.

How do we get there?
You are basically taken to Chitwan in a tourist bus and brought back by the same means. In Chitwan, you are housed in a three-star lodging for the night with lunch, dinner and breakfast the following morning.

Itinerary

We drive early to Chitwan by tourist bus and check into a three-star lodging. We then start the activities here. We first pay a visit to a Tharu Village and then go to an elephant breeding centre. Then we go on a elephant back safari ride with a naturalist. Later it is sunset point for the view of the setting sun. We then go to the Tharu village for a cultural programme. We return for dinner and bed then.

We wake early for bird watching over breakfast and then catch the tourist bus back home.

Are there flights to Chitwan from Kathmandu?

Yes, there are flights to Chitwan both from Kathmandu or Pokhara. Kathmandu to Chitwan flight duration is 20 minutes with flight operating almost the whole day. Pokhara to Chitwan flight duration is just 10 minutes but this flight is limited, only one flight per day.

Is drive Kathmandu to Chitwan or drive from Pokhara to Chitwan possible?

Drive Kathmandu to Chitwan is possible which duration is 5-6 hours and from Pokhara to Chitwan is also 5-6 hours. Please note these driving hours depend upon the traffic conditions on the highway and can be more. You can take either a tourist bus or private car for driving into Chitwan from Kathmandu/Pokhara.

How safe is it to travel by Road?

It’s safe to travel by road but since Nepal is a mountainous country so you may find the highway a bit smaller than your country. Also during monsoon, there can be landslides en-route blocking the highway for hours. But the drivers are experienced and will take you to your destination without any risks.

Is pick-up from Bharatpur airport available?

Pick-up from Bharatpur airport is available as per your hotel location which costs a little extra besides your Chitwan package cost.

Is pick-up from Sauraha Bus Station available?

Yes, pick-up from Sauraha Bus Station is available and there won’t be any extra cost. We shall be waiting for you at the station then transfer to your hotel upon arrival.

Is Chitwan and Sauraha the Same?

Chitwan is a district name and Sauraha is the small village in Chitwan. Sauraha is the tourist hotspot with many hotels, lodges, restaurants, pubs, shops etc like Thamel or lakeside of Pokhara.

You will have a packed lunch and head out to the jungle in the evening with your jungle guide and stay in the treehouse/jungle house and wait for the animals to show up.

Yes, you can and you will have your own room but for jungle activities, you need to join with a group i.e. other travelers from the same hotel.

Clothing
Clothing varies with the type of tour and season. It’s warm in Kathmandu from April to October-end and from November to March-end, days are usually warm but evening colder. Summer clothes are okay during the day time but the evening requires a light jackets. Winter is from December till February so bring along sufficient winter wears like jackets, sweaters, trousers etc. Or you can purchase clothes of your choice in Kathmandu clothing stores too.

A total of 68 species of mammals, 544 species of birds, 56 species of herpetofauna and 126 species of fish have been recorded in the park. The park is especially renowned for its protection of One Horned Rhinoceros, Royal Bengal Tiger and Gharial Crocodile.
