Gokyo Renjo La Pass trek, your ultimate escape to hidden, concealed, and overlooked yet mesmerizingly beautiful regions of Khumbu. The trek takes trekkers to two beautiful valleys of the Everest Region; Gokyo Valley and Nangpa Valley, inundated with gifts of nature that never fail to appease the trekkers. An odyssey to witness the fascinating culture of the Sherpa people, breathtaking views of majestic mountain peaks, and the glory of Mother Nature.
The trail at first takes trekkers along the standard Everest Base Camp Trek till Namche Bazar from where it deviates from the EBC trail and heads toward Gokyo Valley. Gokyo Valley sits on the lap of Mt. Cho Yu sixth-highest peak on the planet and houses some of the most beautiful landmarks found in the Everest region. Gokyo Lakes, Ngozumpa Glacier, and Gokyo Ri are prominent and famous destinations of Gokyo Valley. The beauty of Gokyo Valley has been relished by very few people, deeming it as a hidden gem of the Everest region.
Subsequently after relishing the beauty of Gokyo Valley trekkers will cross Renjo La pass, the pass with a beautiful view of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Cho Yu, Lhotse, and other prominent mountains, and descend to Nangpa Valley. Nangpa Valley is even more unexplored and pristine than Gokyo Valley. The bucolic Sherpa villages dotted all over the Nangpa valley will take trekkers back to the future, and provide them a chance to witness the ascetic and relaxed life in one of the most remote areas in the world. Trekkers will pass through villages like; Lumde, Marlung, Mingmo, Thame, Samde, and Phurte where time has stood still and the essence of quintessential Sherpa village has been painstakingly preserved.
Well, nothing beats the enthralling adventure of traveling off the beaten path, finding and making your way through treacherous Himalayan landscape, coming across unblemished villages with hospitable and welcoming people who haven’t forgotten to smile, witnessing the majestic mountain peaks of the Everest region and relishing the treasure chest of mother nature that hasn’t been opened before. This trek will just do that, providing you an opportunity to trek in regions that are secluded for real adventurers, which haven’t become platitudinous and are as original and amazing as they could get.
Everest Region consists of three prominent valleys: Khumbu Valley, Gokyo Valley, and Nangpo Valley. Most of the arduous and rewarding sections of the EBC trek are done in Khumbu Valley and because EBC is almost like a trite amongst trekkers, Khumbu Valley becomes overcrowded during the trekking season, which defeats the whole purpose of a “Peaceful trek in the Himalayas”. The other two; Gokyo and Nangpa Valley flies over the radar of those who are not devout trekkers, which means the trekking experience is placid and enjoyable to its optimum.
This Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek is your ultimate adventure and escape off the beaten path to the obscured yet majestic Gokyo Valley and Nangpa Valley. This trek will reveal to you the hidden treasure of Mother Nature found in Gokyo and Nangpa. Each step through the steep and daunting descent will introduce to you the adventure, thrill, and excitement of exploring on land covert from the outside world. Secure your escape to mesmerizing Gokyo and Nangpa to savor the breathtaking panoramic view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Yu, and many other peaks from Renjo La and Gokyo Ri, witness the fascinating culture of natives of the Everest region, and glory of mother nature by booking Gokyo Renjo La Pass trek. With experience of almost double decades, we are pioneers in operating trekking expedition that helps trekkers and explorers gratify their longing for adventure and thrill.
Renjo La is situated on the western hill ridge of Gokyo Elevated 17,536 ft/ 5,354 meters above sea level, Renjo La Pass provides probably the best viewing pleasure among the three passes (Kongma La, Cho La, and Renjo La Pass). One can spot 4 out of 8, Eight-thousanders (mountains with elevations more than 8,000m/26,246 ft) found in Nepal, which are Mt. Everest, Makalu, Cho Yu, and Lhotse. The feeling of joy one would get standing at Renjo La is indescribable.
Gokyo Ri a hilltop in Gokyo Valley is probably the best place to spot Everest from Gokyo Valley. Gokyo Ri is a beautiful vantage point that provides trekkers with an opportunity to spot 4 Eight-thousanders; Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Yu, and many other prominent peaks of Everest regions like Tobuche, Cholatse, Thamaserku, KangChung etc. In addition to mountain vista Gokyo Ri also allows trekkers to observe Ngozumpa Glacier, 2 of the six Gokyo Lakes, and Gokyo village. The climb to Gokyo Ri from Gokyo village is a 500 meter/1,640 ft ascend, usually done before dawn to witness beautiful sunshine over the mountain peaks.
Namche Bazar, also known as the gateway to Everest, is a picturesque sherpa settlement found in the remote Khumbu region. Though very far from densely populated cities, Namche Bazar is a sophisticated village where trekkers and mountaineers can find and buy all the necessary goods for trekking and expeditions. In the past few decades, Namche Bazar has morphed from a remote settlement to a well-facilitated tourist hub, but it hasn’t lost its essence and bucolic charm. Its dusty paths have been improved from stone paved ones and small huts to multistoried homes that still adhere to architectural design native to the Khumbu region. It is the last luxurious stop before a trekker further pierces in the Everest region. The markets of Namche Bazar are well stocked with essential trekking gear in case you have forgotten to purchase anything while in Kathmandu, not only branded but locally manufactured apparel can also be bought here.
It is Namche Bazar which will gift trekkers and mountaineers with first glimpses of Mt. Everest. There are luxurious hotels, lodges, and restaurants that serve local and international cuisines as well. In addition, museums, stupas, monasteries, and shrines found in Namche Bazar will help you enlighten with the history, culture, tradition, and lifestyle of the community contently living in this remote part of Khumbu.
The most important aspect of Namche Bazar is, that this boisterous town sitting on the lap of the Himalayas sets the mood for trekkers and mountaineers to take on the challenge of trekking in the Everest region or any sort of demanding mountain expedition, it invigorates them and oust any kind of hesitation, doubts and fear they might have. This lively and happening Sherpa town introduces trekkers and mountaineers with challenges, obstacles, hindrances, problems and difficulties, solutions, rewards, adventure, thrill, and courage simultaneously. It’s not just a place with houses, hotels, lodges, and restaurants but it’s an atmosphere, a different world that bolsters the dreams and determination of adventurers and thrill seekers of exploring Khumbu Region.
Gokyo Lakes is the highest-altitude freshwater lake system on the planet situated at an altitude between 4,700-5,000m/15,419-16,404 ft. Some of the prominent ones are Gokyo Cho or Dudh Pokhari, Thonak Cho, Tanjung Cho, Ngojum Cho, and Gyazompa Cho. These glacier-fed oligotrophic lakes provide a peaceful and serene ambiance to everyone traveling to Gokyo Valley. These lakes are cherished not only for visual aesthetics but also for the religious significance they hold for Buddhists and Hindus. Every year during Janai Purnima (a Nepalese festival) people make a pilgrimage to Gokyo Cho or Dudh Pokhari. The view nearby mountain peak being reflected on the pristine blue Gokyo Lake is to die for.
Ngozumpa Glacier is the largest glacier in Nepal. It is situated in Gokyo Valley and its tributaries originate from Cho Yu and Gyachung peaks and stretch 36 km down the Gokyo Valley. Ngozumpa Glacier like many glaciers is a humongous body of slow-moving ice rivers, this glacier has had a tremendous contribution to shaping the valleys found in in Everest region. It gives rise to the Dudh Koshi River which has played a vital role in promoting biodiversity and sustaining life on the lower regions of Everest. The glaciers and debris it carries with it are so large that you can walk on them and not know that you are walking over the glacier. The glacier has accentuated the beauty of Gokyo Valley, creating glacial lakes and picturesque landscapes in this part of the Everest region.
Sherpa people mostly inhabiting higher altitude areas of Nepal are often considered to be the toughest people on the planet. In places with rarefied atmospheres, where people struggle to even breathe, they hike up and down carrying luggage/baggage weighing more than 200 lbs. While on Everest Luxury Trek you will get to observe the fascinating culture, tradition, and lifestyle of the Sherpa people, who thrive in these harsh living conditions. Their belief and values heavily influenced by Tibetan Buddhism is one spectacle to witness. Their unique culture and tradition are no less captivating. The monastery and museums that you will visit will tell you tales of bravery, simplicity, persistence, and belief of the Sherpa people. As you traverse through settlement areas like Namche Bazar displaying the artless beauty and simplicity of the culture, tradition, and lifestyle, you will get to observe and explore the cultural enigma obscured from the modern world.
Trekkers will get two kinds of flight experience on this trek. One was done in a small airplane and another in a helicopter. As the name of the trek package suggests one of the major highlights of the trek is a helicopter flight that will take trekkers out deep from the Khumbu region and to Kathmandu. But even before the helicopter flight, trekkers will get to the Khumbu region by Airplane flight, from either Ramechhap or Kathmandu.
The trans-Himalayan flight to Lukla takes off from Kathmandu. The thing about this flight is that it’s not a regular flight, it’s a flight that allows its passengers to get magnificent views of the Langtang Range, Gaurishankar Range, Makalu Range, and Everest Range. The views of the mountains are just indescribable. The snow-capped peaks pierce white gossamer clouds and display their ethereal beauty to spectators on board.
The touchdown at Lukla is a different adventure. Tenzing Hillary Airport is one of the most difficult airports to land an aircraft on, and that is why no newbie pilot is permitted to the Kathmandu-Lukla flight. The aircraft dives headfirst from the hill opposite Lukla before lifting for the touchdown at Tenzing Hillary Airport. Your adventurous trek begins with a thrilling and almost acrobatic landing performed by pilots who have mastered the Himalayan skies with their aircraft.
The Helicopter flight starts from Gorakshep, where your trek concludes. A chartered helicopter will get there at Gorakshep to pick you up. As Helicopter starts to fly in Khumbu skies, you will be bestowed magnificent views of mountains, landscapes, and everything Khumbu has to offer to its visitors.
There are simply too many things, too many attractions of the Everest Region, that if we mentioned it all will make this TLDR. But be assured that Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes Heli Tour offer more than what you have desired.
Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek is graded as a strenuous trek. The trek is done across treacherous terrain at high altitudes. A flight from either Kathmandu or Ramechhap will take you to the Khumbu region. For a flight from Ramechhap, you will get on a bus during early morning hours which will take you to Manthali Airport at Ramechhap. Then from Manthali, a quick 15-minute flight will take you to Lukla, from Kathmandu it will take 45 mins to reach Lukla. Now, Lukla is the place from where your trekking officially begins. The stone-paved trail extends to Namche Bazar passing through Chheplung, Nurning, Phakding, and Monjo to Namche Bazar. The trail pierces lush Pine forests and crosses rivers and streams through a suspension bridge ornated with colorful prayer flags.
From Namche Bazar, the trail further stretches to Sansa, Dhole, and Machhermo successively finally reaching Gokyo. This section of trail takes trekkers to elevation higher than tree line altitude, so it begins to become less and less greener and more and more dry and arid. At Gokyo, trekkers will explore nearby Gokyo Lakes, Ngozumpa Glacier, and Gokyo Ri. Subsequent day trekkers will hike from Gokyo Village to Lumde and cross the magnificent Renjo La pass. From Lumde, the trail stretches to Namche passing through Thame, and Phurte to Namche Bazar. From Namche Bazar, the trail retraces its marks back to Lukla. At Lukla, your mesmerizing trek in the obscured region of Khumbu concludes. At Lukla, you will get on a flight that will fly you out of Lukla to Kathmandu.
The proceeding/route of the trek mentioned above is a condensed and synoptic form of the actual itinerary. To know more about the proceeding/route and itinerary please check our detailed itinerary section, which includes exhaustive information of the itinerary program.
Our proposed itinerary for Gokyo Lakes to Everest Base Camp Heli Trek is a standard itinerary. Some trekkers might find it a bit longer and thus want to shorten the standard itinerary or add on some coupling tours and similar activities. Some trekkers might want to change the procession that which trek follows. Depending upon your requirements we can expedite some day hikes and omit touring activities to shorten or we can couple some other tours and similar activities to lengthen your overall exploration. We can also change the route or the procession when we commence the trek. Instead of first exploring Gokyo Valley and its lakes, we can instead trek through Thame, Lumde, and cross Renjo La then reach Gokyo Valley. This clockwise procession is quite strenuous since there will be quite a significant elevation fluctuation without proper acclimatization on the day of cross-passing. But if you are fit enough and determined to conquer the trek this way then we will assist you.
Finding a trek that meets your needs, expectations, and feasibility is very important. Embarking on the trek requires extensive resources, time, and effort. So, you must assess whether the trek you are doing is the right trek for you or not. Here we will assist you to do just that.

For every trek and tour done with hard-earned money, it is necessary to make sure that it is worth what they are paying. The adventure, exploration, and experience that a trekker will have during the trek must be worth every penny he/she is going to pay. Acclimatization while doing challenging and strenuous treks like the Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek is very important. Not allowing your body to acclimatize itself to a low oxygen content atmosphere can cause altitude sickness, even to experienced trekkers. Altitude gains of as high as 5,000 meters require critical attention.
But our itinerary is carefully planned and consists of two deliberately segregated acclimatization days, one at Namche Bazar and one at Gokyo, to prevent our trekkers from getting altitude sickness. The trick is to walk slowly and steadily, drink plenty of water (Don’t let yourself dehydrate), avoid alcoholic drinks or too much salty food, and follow your trek guide’s instructions. Don’t walk too fast thinking you are fit enough as it may result in getting AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) you are hiking at the world’s highest locations where the oxygen level is very low, so you will easily get tired and dehydrated resulting in chances of suffering with Altitude Sickness.
Altitude illness in high mountain journeys is a prevalent issue, however, it is preventable and wishes instantaneous remedy. However, if you act nonchalantly about symptoms of altitude sickness, it can get severe even lethal.
Mountain sickness often starts from an elevation of 3,500m. Our trekking leaders and guides are properly experienced and use oximeters to monitor your oxygen degree for early detection of altitude illness.
