Jamacho Hill is located on the northwest hill ridge of Kathmandu Valley, inside Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. Jamacho Hill sits on the border of Kathmandu and Dhading District. On the northwestern side of Jamacho Hill are areas of Dhadhing district. Kathmandu District surrounds Jamacho Hill on the remaining sides, and east of Jamcho is the beautiful Kathmandu Valley. There are a couple of ways to get to Jamacho Hill. Jamacho Hill can be reached via motorized vehicle which is easy and convenient, however, the fun of hiking through the serene forest is incomparable. The trailhead for the hike starts at Fulbari Gate just 6 km away from Thamel, and will take 25 minutes at most on a vehicle to get to.
The length of the Jamacho Hiking Trail is approximately 4.5 km or 2.79 miles to the top of Jamacho Hill. The total hiking distance during the trip will be 9 km or 5.6 miles. The trail passes through Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, featuring vegetation that is a mix of flora found in subtropical and temperate regions. The trailhead, Bansbari Village, is approximately 4.5 km far from Thamel and it will take at most 25 minutes to reach the trailhead by car from your hotel.
Jamacho Hike can be completed within 4-5 hours. The ascend or first half of the hike to Jamacho Hill will take almost 3-4 hours. After a break of 30-45 minutes at the top, for lunch, sightseeing, and activities, the descending hike will begin. The descending hike will be completed in 1 hour.
The hike duration will largely depend upon the hikers themselves.
Jamacho Hill is elevated 2,100 meters or 6,890 feet above sea level. The trailhead is at an elevation of 1400 meters, which means the hikers will observe a net elevation of more than 700 meters. The beginning and end sections of the hike are the steepest parts of the hike. Some sections of the trail aren’t steep and easy to walk on. The steep sections are stone-paved, so with good hydration and rest breaks you can easily do this hike.
At the top of the Jamacho Hill is the Jamacho Gumba. Jamacho Gumba is a Buddhist shrine which is dedicated to Guru Rinpoche Padmasambhava. Every year locals hike to Jamacho Gumba to conduct “puja” in memory of deceased family members.
The Jamacho Gumba is adorned with colorful prayer flags which flutter on a small whiff of wind. The Gumba also features a small stupa/shrine, a sculpture of Guru Rinpoche Padmasambhava, a view tower, and other buildings inside its premises.
Drive to Fulbari Gate (25-minute drive)

Jamacho Hill, Break for sightseeing and rest (30-45 minutes)
At Jamacho Hill there is Jamacho Stupa. There will be a 30-45-minute break for rest, sightseeing, and activities.
Hike down to Fulbari Gate (1.5 hours)
After the break, you will begin the descending hike to Fulbari Gate. It will take around 1.5 hours to hike down from Jamacho to Fulbari Gate.
Drive Back to your hotel.
You will be driven back to your hotel from Fulbari Gate. Which will take around 25 minutes.
