Overview

Kathmandu and Pokhara Tour is a tour package itinerary made especially to visit two places in Nepal, the capital city Kathmandu and the lakeside city of Pokhara. This tour is for six days in which you get to visit places of interest in both of them and do some activities accordingly.

In Kathmandu, the Kathmandu and Pokhara tour takes on a tour of four places that have a historical, traditional, cultural and religious value to not only the people of Nepal but as well to the world over. These places are Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath Temple and finally Boudhanath Stupa. After a bus or a flight journey, whichever one is of your choosing, you head for Pokhara, in what is termed as a memorable journey, for it gives you the pleasure of either viewing rural Nepal form the top or on the road, with its lush verdure hills, villages and rivers while on the way. Then in Pokhara, you get to do another set of activities, like seeing the sunrise over the Mountain Peaks of Annapuran, Machhapuchhare and others. Down then for a city tour of places special for tourists. You go to visit temple caves, waterfalls and other temples, plus take a ride a boat on the Fewa Tal/Lake.

Though this is just a six day trip to Kathmandu and Pokhara, there is much, which can be had from such a trip. The first is in Kathmandu. Here on the first day, you visit Kathmandu Durbar Square. This place is the old historical township of the past kings with the palace, squares and the various temples to the deities. Next, it is onto Pashupatinath Temple which was built in the fifth century to honour Lord Shiva. It has a special place in the heart of the locals as well as internationally. From here it is onto Swayambhunath that has the story of Kathmandu Valley’s formation and Boudhanath Stupa. In Pokhara, it is the sunrise in Sarangkot, the city tour and boat ride which takes the time galore. Finally, when it all said and done, you head back home.

How are the tours conducted from Place to Place?
Well, all the tours in the city are in a private vehicle and when your move from one town to the other, it is either by tourist bus or if you wish by plane with an extra charge for it. You stay at three-star accommodation throughout the trip.

Itinerary

Today, you are welcomed at the airport by a staff of the company who later takes you by private to your three star lodging for the day. If you have any time in hand, you could use it as it might please you.

Today, we go on a tour of different places in Kathmandu. The first place we head is Kathmandu Durbar Square where we learn and see the old palace, the houses, temples and others. Then, it's onto Pashupatinath Temple that was built in the fifth century in honour of Lord Shiva. After lunch, we got to Swayambhunath, a temple atop a hillock. It is believed that the story of Kathmandu has its roots here. Later, we head Boudhanath Stupa, the largest stupa in the world and it is believed to have the single of Buddha in it. It is also believed that circling its circumference, will make a person stress free and anxiety-free. Later, we return to the hotel for our stay there.

Today, we either drive or fly to Pokhara. All left to your discretion. You will have to pay extra for flying. Either way, you get the chance to see the rural side of Nepal. Twenty minutes in the plane and seven hours on the tourist bus. If you arrive as in the flight, you can spend the remaining time in Pokhara it might please you. You stay the night in a three-star hotel.

Today, we head to Sarangkot early to catch the sun rising over the snow-capped peaks of Annapurna, Machhapuchhare and others. After breakfast there, we go on a city tour of Pokhara in which we get to see, waterfalls, cave temples, the museum of mountaineering and then take a boat ride on the Fewa Tal/Lake. Later we return to the hotel for our stay there.

Today, we return to Kathmandu either by bus or flight, which is all at your discretion. Either way, you get the same joy of the countryside of Nepal. In Kathmandu, you check into a hotel and then do some window shopping. Later in the evening, there will be a farewell dinner with the staff of the company at an authentic Nepali restaurant.

Since your trip is now complete, you will be taken three hours ahead of time to the airport and bid farewell.

Tour Availability
We operate Kathmandu Pokhara Tour privately with your personal guide so that you don’t have to confront with other people who might have different interests or attitudes. To keep our tours private and comfortable we limit our groups with 10 people per guide. Please contact us if you have a bigger group and we will arrange several guides for you depending on group size.

Vehicle
We use comfortable car/mini-van for the sightseeing tours. (For up to 2 people, car is provided and mini-van is for the group 3-10 people) Kathmandu/Pokhara/Kathmandu transfers can be done either by drive or flight as per your requirement.

Tour duration
The tour duration is 4 nights/5 days. In Kathmandu, visit the major UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Swoyambhunath-Monkey Temple, Boudhanath. Pokhara sightseeing includes all the natural tourist sites and Himalayan view-point Sarangkot.

Clothing
Clothing varies with the type of tour and season. It’s warm in Kathmandu from April to October-end and from November to March-end, days are usually warm but evening colder. Summer clothes are okay during the day time but the evening requires a light jackets. Winter is from December till February so bring along sufficient winter wears like jackets, sweaters, trousers etc. Or you can purchase clothes of your choice in Kathmandu clothing stores too.

Breakfast is included during your stay at Kathmandu/Pokhara.

The sightseeing places we visit in Kathmandu will include:

Kathmandu Durbar Square (World Heritage Site)
This complex of palaces, courtyards and temples, built between the 12th and 18th centuries, used to be the seat of the ancient Malla kings of Kathmandu. An intriguing piece here is the 17th- century stone inscription set into the wall of the palace with writings in 15 languages. The Durbar Square is the social, religious and urban focal point of the city. There are also three museums inside the palace building.

Swoyambhunath Stupa – The Monkey Temple (World Heritage Site)
The huge stupa is one of the holiest Buddhists sites in Nepal and its establishment is linked to the creation of the Kathmandu Valley out of a primordial lake. Swayambhu is also known the Monkey temple because of the countless monkeys living in the premises. The stupa is towards the western side of the Kathmandu valley atop a hillock commanding great view of the entire Kathmandu Valley.

Pashupatinath Temple (World Heritage Site)
Pashupatinath is one of the most sacred Hindu shrines located 5 kms east of the city center. The richly-ornamented pagoda houses the sacred Linga, or phallic symbol, of Lord Shiva. Chronicles indicate the temples existence prior to 400 AD. The holy Bagmati River flowing beside the temple is also the cremation ground for Hindus.

Bouddhanath Stupa (World Heritage Site)
The Bouddhanath Stups is the largest stupa in the valley located about 6 kms to the east of downtown Kathmandu. It looms 36 meters high and presents one of the most fascinating
specimens of stupa design. Buddhanath is also known as Khasti, or dew drops, after an account that builders had to use dew to mix the mortar as Kathmandu was suffering from a severe drought during the construction of Bouddhanath.

The sightseeing places we visit in Pokhara will include:

Sarangkot
Sarangkot is the Himalayan view-point located at an altitude of 1600m. From Sarangkot, on the northern direction one can spot Dhawalagiri in the far west, Annapurna range is visible when the weather is clear on the same side. On the southern direction overlooks the Pokhara city and its lake on the north-western outskirts of the city.

World Peace Pagoda
World Peace Pagoda is a Buddhist stupa located on a hill top (Rani Ban) just above the Phewa Lake. This stupa is the symbol of peace where the huge idols of Lord Buddha from Japan, Sri Lanka and Thailand have been installed. From here one can enjoy the breathtaking views of Himalayan Ranges, lakes, and the city.

Bindhabasini Temple
The temple is for the Goddess Bhagwati located in the center of the religious old bazaar. The park grounds offer a fine picnic and relaxing area.

Davis fall
Locally known as Patale Chhango and in the southern flank of the Pokhara valley, it is where the stream flowing from Fewa Lake collapses and surges down the rock into a deep gorge, leaping through several potholes.

Gupteshwor Cave
The revered Gupteshwor Cave is situated 2 kms from Pokhara airport. The entrance is right across from Davis fall and the cave is almost 3 kms long. It has some big hall-sized rooms and some passages where you have to crawl on all four. This cave holds special value to Hindus since a phallic symbol of Lord Shiva is preserved here in the condition it was discovered

Seti River Gorges
Carved by Seti-Gandaki, it is one of the natural wonders of Pokhara. K.I. Singh bridge at Bagar, Mahendrapool and Prithivi highway Bridge near bus park, provide a perfect view of the rivers dreadful rush and the deep gorge made by the turbulent flow of white water.

Tibetan Refugee Camps
The Tibetan village Tashiling in the south and the Tashi Palkhel village in the north of Pokhara are renowned for the production and trade of woolen carpets and other handicrafts. The original Tibetan settlers in this region migrated to Nepal in the ‘50s.

Regional Museum
It is located between the airport and Mahendra Pul & reflects the ethnic mosaic of Western Nepal. The lifestyles and history of ethnic groups such as the Gurung, Thakali and the Tharu are attractively displayed.
