Overview

Lhasa EBC Kailash Guge Trek covers the major highlights and what Tibet has to offer to the outside world. The tour visits the ancient city of Lhasa, central Tibet and towards the Everest Base Camp, Mt. Kailash and the holy lake of Mansarover plus the ancient kingdom of Guge. The trail passes through the Tibetan countryside witness some spectacular panorama of the snow-capped mountains. Visit the local homes of the Tibetans and observe Buddhist prayer ceremonies giving you a full insight into the culture and tradition of Tibetan daily lives and religious practices. After finishing sightseeing at Lhasa drive to Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world, then visit the Everest Base Camp. Later on, drive to the holy lake of Mansarover and go for a three days pilgrimage trek around the holy mountain to complete the ‘Kora’ or ‘Parikrama’. Then the tour visits the ancient kingdom of Guge to eventually drive to the border town of Tibet and Nepal ‘Zhangmu’ to drive to the city of Kathmandu where the tour ends.

Itinerary

Fly past the tallest mountains series of the world ‘the Himalayas’. Upon arrival at Goggar Airport, met by the representatives and drive to Lhasa. The first day in Lhasa is take a rest at the hotel in order to get acclimatize with the altitude of Lhasa. Overnight Hotel.

On the first day in Lhasa, you will be taken for the whole day. We start right after breakfast, where first begin by the Potala Palace, which is atop a hill and was first built King Songtsen Gompo and added to its magnificent by successive kings and Dalai to its refineries’. Then, we pay a visit to Norbulinka and Ramoche Monastery. Norbulinka means Treasure Park and is thought to be the largest man made garden in Tibet. Whereas the Ramche Monastery was first built in the 7th century by Hand architecture of China. We are then transferred by to our hotel.

Completing breakfast, we continue seeing other places in Lhasa. We begin by going to Sera Monastery, we means wild roses in Tibetan. It is a Monastery 5 Km to the north of Lhasa with a vast complex of a main assemble hall and three universities which has a capacity to house 4 to 5 thousand monks. Next we go to Jokhang Temple that is in the heart of Lhasa and has the most precious item, a golden Shakyamuni gifted by the Chinese Princess Wen Cheng on her wedding to King Songtsen Gompo. Eventually we go to Barkhor Market to check out what bargains of religious and culture items we might get of the culture of Tibet here. We then return to our hotel for the night.

After breakfast, drive from Lhasa to Gyantse city, the third largest city in Tibet and check-in hotel in Gyantse. Overnight at Hotel.

In the morning drive to Shigatse from Gyantse where the drive will take around 2 hours. In Shigatse, visit the Tashilhunpo Monastery spread over 300,000 sq.m. and is one of the six main monasteries of the Yellow Hat Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It was founded in 1447. Overnight at Hotel.

After breakfast, drive to Sakya Monastery located southwest of Shigatse. The monastery is the principle monastery of the Sakyapa Sect of Tibetan Buddism. Khon Konchong Gyalp, the founder of Sakyapa Sect, built a white palace on a grey hill near the northern bank of the Chun Qu River in 1073. The locals named the palace ‘Sakya’ which means grey soil and was the Northern Monastery but today visible only as a ruin. Overnight at Hotel/Guest House.

Drive from Sakya Monastery to Old Tingri. Upon arrival prepare for the next days’ trek. Overnight at Hotel/Guest House.

The first day of the trek and after breakfast trek from Old Tingri to Tsojan Village located at an altitude of 4500 meters. The trail passes through Lunja as it proceeds south towards Everest. It’s a gradual ascend during the day through the typical high flat Tibetan plains. Overnight Camp.

Trek from Tsojan to the foot of Lamna la pas at 5100 meters which takes about 4-6 hours. As the hike proceeds up in the valley, Mt. Everest disappears behind the mountains. The trail then turns southeast and begins to climb to the pass. Overnight Camp.

Continue along the way towards the main road. The village of Zemukh is the highest populated villages in the world. The elevation slightly drops as the trek reaches the main road. Camp in the high valley near Zemukh as we countinue towards Rongbuk. Overnight Camp.

Trek from Zemukh to Rongbuk where a monastery is located at Rongbuk considerd the highest monastery in the world. It will take 4-6 hours of hiking. Rongbuk is a small village with guesthouses and some local houses and located 4 km away from the Everest Base Camp. Rongbuk provides great sunrise and sunset views of Mt. Everest. Overnight at Guest House.

Early in the morning hike to Everest Base Camp which will be 8 km in total up and down. Afterwards, we will call it a day and rest. Overnight at Guest House.

Today’s the long drive (8-9 hrs) over the sandy and rocky terrain of Tibet to the typical Chinese Tibetan town of Saga. The trail comes across lake and nomads with their yak and sheep herd. In the afternoon, it crosses Bhramha putra River and finally reaches Saga. Overnight at Guest House

Yet again long drive of about 8 hours to the holy lake of Mansarover magnificiently located on the Tibetan plateau bordered by the majestic Gurla Mandata. As the trail approaches the scared lake, you will spot the historic Chiu Monastery at the north-west shore of the lake. From it’s vantage point, great view of Mt. Kailash and Gurla Mandata can be witnessed. This is a spiritual journey. Overnight at Guest House.

Today drive from Lake Mansarover to Darchen. You will meet hundreds of pilgrimages from Tibet, Nepal and India plus other countries en-route. Overnight at Hotel

The first day of the Kailash trek and drive to Tarboche (the starting point of Kailash trek). Tarboche is also known as ‘Asthapath’. The first day of the ‘Kora’ is a steadily walking with many other pilgrims chanting and praying. The trail goes few ups and downs till it reaches Dira-puk which takes 5-6 hours hike. It is the northwestern face of Mt. Kailash. Overnight Camp/Guest House.

Today is the hardest part of the trek nevertheless the holiest too. The trail ascends to Drolma La, the highest point of the hike. It’s a tough ascend but rewarding with the view of Thukpe Dzingbu Lake, the lake of compassion. Then you will descend to the flat fields of Zutul puk where a monastery and several fascination caves are located. These caves were for meditating in which Milarepa’s cave is one of the most ancient and popular. Milarepa’s footprints and elbow prints are believed to be imprinted all over this cave filled with Mani stones. You then reach Zutul-puk. Overnight Camp/Guest House.

The trail follows through Bhark plains towards Darchen. The walk today is easy along some remarkable gorges and past Mani stones and Mani Walls. The Kora has come to an end and arrive at dusty Darchen. Then drive to Tirthapuri and spend the night here. Overnighat at Hotel/Guest House.

After breakfast, drive from Tirthapuri to Tolhing. In Tolhing, visit the Tolhing Monastery then return back to hotel. Overnight at Hotel.

This day drive towards the most ancient kingdom in Tibet, the kingdom of Guge and expore around. Guge kingdom was established in 10th century with over 16 kings ruling the land over 700 years in which it flourished. Buddhism was spread from here to the heart of Tibet and It also served as a major center for Tibet’s foreign trade. Overnight at Hotel/Guest House

Today drive from Guge to Darchen and spend the night at Darchen. Overnight at Hotel/Guest House.

Drive from Darchen to the town of Saga. After check-in the hotel, explore around the town. Overnight at Hotel.

Drive to Nayalm from Saga. Overnight at Hotel.

The last day of the tour and drive to the border town of Tibet & Nepal ‘Zhangmu’. At the friendship bridge, finish the immigration formalities and drive over a scenic route over the green landscape to the city of Kathmandu.

Clothing
The climate of the Tibet fluctuates continuously so it is better to carry warm clothes. If you just want to trek or tour at a lower altitude, fleece jackets and pants are enough. While for a higher altitude trekking, down jackets are necessary.
