Overview

Mt. Kailash Everest Base Camp Tour is the complete package that covers major attractions of Tibet and once in a lifetime experience of visiting Everest Base Camp, Mt. Kailash and the holy Lake Mansarover. Get thrilled by the panoramic spectacular views of the snow-capped mountains, the vast Tibetan plateau, and the trail passes through high mountain passes, serene lakes, glaciers, remote Tibetan settlements. Thus, the tour will also give you a full insight into the age-old Tibetan art, culture, tradition and history. Lhasa itself is a historical and ancient city, where you will go for a guided city tour then move towards the Everest Base Camp driving along the high Tibetan plateau, visit the Rongbuk Monastery, the highest in the world. Afterward, drive towards the Lake Mansarover passing various cities along the way. Spending time at Mansarover Lake is a feeling of tranquility and blessing then the trek begins to Mt. Kailash for the ‘Kora’, circumambulation of the mountain which takes 3 days. Finally, after completing the kora drive towards the borderland town of Tibet & Nepal ‘Nyalam’ then to ‘Zhangmu’ and eventually drive to Kathmandu after finishing your enthralling Kailash, Everest Base Camp and Tibet sojourn.

Itinerary

Arrive Lhasa and our local representative will meet/greet you at the airport then transfer to your hotel as booked. Full day is rest for acclimatization. Overnight at Hotel.

After breakfast, we will take you for a sightseeing tour around Lhasa and visit historic & religious places like Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Market. Potala Palace is home to Dalai Lama and was built in 637 AD by Tibetan king, Tsongten Gompo; it’s resides on a hilltop. Jokhang Temple, situated in the heart of Old Lhasa, houses, Tibet’s most precious religious relic, a golden Sakyamuni Buddha which was brought as a gift by the Chinese Princess Wen Cheng on the occasion of her wedding to the Tibetan King, Songtsen Gampo. Barkhor Market place is the social and religious focal point of entire Lhasa. Afterwards Afterwards, back to hotel. Overnight at Hotel. After city tour, return back to hotel. Overnight at Hotel.

After breakfast, you will drive to first to Gyantse then to Shigatse. Gyantse is towards southwest of Lhasa on the northern bank of Nyang-Chu River and it takes about 8 hrs to reach Gyantse. En-route you will cross Kampa-La Pass (4,800m), drive along Yamdrok Lake and also Karo-La Pass (5,010m). Gyantse is a small farming town and still retains the fascination of a traditional Tibetan town untouched my modern development. In Gyatse, visit the Kumbum Stupa & Phalkor Monastery. Kumbum Stupa was built in 1440 by Rabtan Kunsang and it’s has magnificent architecture in whole Tibet. Phalkor Monastery was built in 15th century under the guidance of the first Panchen Lama.

Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet, is 90 km from Gyantse. Tashilumpo Monastery is located in Shigatse which is the seat of the Panchen Lama and was built in 1447 by the first Dalai Lama. It’s one of the six important Gelupa monasteries in China. Overnight at Hotel.

Today, drive from Shigatse to Shegar which is about 6 hours drive. Shegar is also acknowledges as Tingri and located at an elevation of 3,900 meters. In Tingri, hike up to Shegar Dzong overlooking the city. Overnight at Guest House.

After breakfast, drive towards Rongphu Monastery (4,980m), the worlds’ highest monastery and from where good view of Mt. Everest and other snow capped peaks can be observed. Overnight at Guest House.

Early in the morning, trek towards the Everest Base Camp, the northern face, which takes about 2 hours of hiking. Afterwards, drive back to Tingri which is 5 hours of driving. Overnight at Guest House.

This day, the trail ascends up to Saga which is located at an elevation of 4,600m meters. The total duration from Tingri to Saga is about 6 hours. Overnight at Guest House.

Another exciting day of a long drive begins with passing along the wide valley, following rivers and grasslands. Far south, snow capped peaks can be noticed including Rocky Mountains, sands and duns. Depending on season, nomads and other mobile venders are attired by beautiful traditional costume, waits with hot tea and other supplies with smile. By the late afternoon, you will witness the first sight of the Holy Mt. Kailash and Lake Mansarover. Mansarover is the highest fresh water lake with turquoise complexion surrounded by Mt. Kailash, Mt. Gurula Mandata and Lake Rasheksh. There are few monasteries on its shores; the most notable one is the ancient Chiu Monastery built on a steep hill. Overnight at Guest House.

Explore the Lake Mansarover which certainly gives you a wonderful feeling of tranquility and bliss, then you drive towards Darchen which is considered as the base camp for the Holy Mt. Kailash. Darchen is marked with about thousand prayer flags as a holy pilgrimage site. O/N Guest House.

Early in the morning, you start trek from Darchen, and it’s one of the exciting walk of about 18 km passing along beautiful steep rocky cliffs, waterfalls and narrow canyons observing the clear blue sky over the 13th century monastery of Dira Phuk. O/N Guest House

Today is the hardest but holiest day of your tour crossing over Dolma-La (pass) of 18600ft between Drolma chu and Lha chu valley. A thousand prayer’s flags decorate the pass, then you will steep climb up the pass and you will cross Parvati sthal & Gauri Kunda then descend down to Zutul Phuk, the cave of miracles. The great ascetic Milerappa is supposed to have performed miracles here. O/N Guest House

Early in the morning, drive starts from Zutul Phuk Monastery to Paryang and continues till Saga which is nearly 255 km away, and consumes 7 hours of driving along the vast Tibetan plateau. Overnight at Guesthouse.

Completing the tour, you will drive towards Nyalam. Nyalam is the border in the middle of Nepal and China. Overnight at Guesthouse.

After breakfast, drive towards the border side town Zhangmu. After finishing the immigration formalities at both sides, Tibet & Nepal, drive to Kathmandu.

Clothing
The climate of the Tibet fluctuates continuously so it is better to carry warm clothes. If you just want to trek or tour at a lower altitude, fleece jackets and pants are enough. While for a higher altitude trekking, down jackets are necessary.
