Overview

Lhasa & Everest Base Camp Trek is an exhilarating and most adventurous tour and trekking program. Explore the ancient capital of Lhasa and trek into the base camp of Mt. Everest. Flight into the city of Lhasa is spectacular witnessing the world’s highest mountain series. The following days will be spent with guided city tours around Lhasa visiting important landmarks like Potala palace, Sera & Drepung monasteries, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor market. Afterward, drive towards Gyantse passing through the turquoise lake ‘Yamdroke’ then follows driving along the Tibetan countryside to Shigatse where visit Tashilhumpu Monastery. Next comes the town of Tingri crossing over Gyatchula pass (5200m) and to Rongbuk Monastery, the world’s highest monastery from where Everest Base Camp is just 4 km away reached either walking or rent a horse cart. The trek is quite challenging with exploring around the base camp and returning back to Rongbuk. The tour ends with driving towards the border town of Tibet and Nepal ‘Zhangmu’ and eventually traces the route to the city of Kathmandu.

Itinerary

Fly past the world’s tallest mountains series towards the Goggar airport. Upon arrival you will be met by our representatives and drive to Lhasa and check-in hotel. The drive is about an hour to Lhasa from the airport. The first day in Lhasa is to rest at the hotel to get better acclimatize to Lhasa’s high altitude and to be prepare for the upcoming tour and trek. You are suggested to drink lots of fluids and rest today. Overnight at Hotel.

After breakfast, drive to Gyantse via Yamdrok, the turquoise lake crossing along Kampa la pass (5050m) and Karo la pass (5045m). In Gyantse, visit the Kubum Stupa and Pelkor Chode Monastery. Kubum Stupa is a multi-storied combination of Buddhist shrines whereas Pelkor Chode Monastery is the main monastery in Gyantse. Overnight Hotel.

Today drive from Gyantse to Shigatse, en-route visit the Shalu Monastery. The monastery was founded ion 1040 by Chetseun Sherab Jungnay and renowned as a centre for scholarly learning and psychic training. The mural paintings here are considered to be the most anicient and beautiful in Tibet. Then visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, the seat of Panchen Lama, the 2nd in Buddhist religious hierarchy and later on stroll around Shigatse Market. Overnight at Hotel.

Drive towards Tingri, the windblown settlement and also the gateway to Mt. Everest. En-route Sakya Monastery located 25 km southeast of a bridge 127 km west of Shigatse on the road to Tingri in Tibet. As the seat of the Sakya (or Sakyapa) school of Tibetan Buddhism , it was founded in 1073, by Konchok Gyelpo (1034–1102), Overnight Camp.

The trek starts from Tingri plains for 5 days that proceeds all the way upto Dza Rongbuk Monastery to Everest Base Camp. The trek begins along Ra Chhu stream beyond Chholling crossing the village of Lungjhang. Overnight Camp.

Continue the trek passing through small goat or Drokpa campsite then camp below Lamna La at 5150 meters. Overnight Camp.

The trail climbs Lamna La with Gyachung Kang and Cho Oyu off to the south then it descends to Zommug, the highest permanent settlement in the Everest region. It’s also the centre for animal husbandry and a supply centre for yaks which are used for the Everest expeditions. Overnight Camp.

The renowned Dza Rongbuk Monastery is to the south of Zommug which can be reached either by a remarkable high route or an easier low path. Once a prosperous retreat center, it is built by Dzatrul Ngawang Tenzin Norbu in early 1901-02. Mt. Everest can be spotted towering high in it’s full glory. Overnight Camp.

Everest Base Camp (16,900 ft) and the Rongbuk Glacier are approximately 2-3 hrs above the monastery. You will have to pass through retreat caves, the nunnery of Sherab Chholing ruins and the fast flowing Dzaka Chu. Everest Base Camp is just before the terminus of the Rongbuk glacier. Across a creek is the ocean of ice that makes up the Rongbuk glacier and majestic panorama of the snow-capped Himalayas. Overnight Camp.

In the morning, drive leaving Dza Rongbuk passing through the villages of Chhosang, Phadrukchi and crossing over Pang La across Phung Chhu ‘Arun River’ and into the town of Tingri. Overnight at Camp/Guest House.

After breakfast, drive from the plains of Tingri way across the Tibetan plateau to the trade post town of Nyalam. Then proceed towards the border town between Tibet and Nepal ‘Zhangmu’. En-route visit the Milarepa Cave where the greatest yogi of Tibet mediated in the 11th century From the Tingri plain we drive across the high Tibetan plateau to the trade post town of Nyalam and onto Zhangmu, the border town. En route visit Milarepa Cave where Tibet’s greatest yogi of the 11th century Milarepa meditated. Overnight at the town of Zhangmu. O/N Hotel.

After completing the immigration formalities at the border ‘friendship bridge’ drive along the highway of lush green surroundings to the city of Kathmandu.

The trek duration is 13 nights/14 days.

Clothing
The climate of the Tibet fluctuates continuously so it is better to carry warm clothes. If you just want to trek or tour at a lower altitude, fleece jackets and pants are enough. While for a higher altitude trekking, down jackets are necessary.
