Nagarkot Trek is one of the most popular short treks done in and around Kathmandu Valley. Nagarkot, situated 32km far from the heart of the capital city, is a popular viewpoint from where you can get stunning views of the mountain panorama and mesmerizing sunrise.
Nagarkot and Chisapani trek will take you away from the pollution, and the hustle-bustle of the city to the refreshing hill of Nagarkot via Chisapani. This short trek done in the outskirts of Kathmandu will take you through lush jungles, settlement areas, water springs, and sections of Shivapuri National Park, and finally get you to Nagarkot Hill. The Chisapani village is a beautiful village situated at the hill ridge surrounding Kathmandu, where you can see the day-to-day life of people living around Kathmandu. The trek spans 3 days and 2 nights, allowing you to see a mesmerizing view of the mountain wall that stretches on the northern border of Nepal and glimpses of life around the capital of the country.
The trip begins with a 1-hour drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal waterfall, the point from where the Bagmati river starts flowing in a rather flat land. You will trek through Mulkharka, a beautiful village from where you can get a breathtaking view of the Kathmandu valley, to Chisapani. From Chispani you will traverse through Haibung, Jhule, Jharsing pauwa finally to Nagarkot. At Nagarkot, you will get a breathtaking view of mountain peaks. You can also spot Mt. Everest from very far distance from Nagarkot. You then will spend a night in Nagarkot to enjoy the next sunrise view. Later you will then trek to Changu Narayan to explore this ancient artifact of a temple that reflects the traditional art and architecture.

Nagarkot Trek is one of the most rewarding easy and short hikes done around Kathmandu valley. Despite being short and easy the natural and cultural immersion is no less than any trek done in high altitude. If you are already in the valley then the trek can be concluded in just 3 days. The elevation gain is also not significant so there is no chance that you will be overwhelmed by the difficulty of the trail. The ascend and descends are moderate, with frequent rest during the hike anyone can do this trek without any issues. Nagarkot Chisapani Trek can be a stand-alone trek or it can be add-on activities that you might want to do when you are in Nepal. Nagarkot is one of the best vantage points along the Kathmandu Valley rim, elevated at 2175 m. Situated northeast of the Kathmandu valley, the hilltop provides an amazing view of a mountain range from Everest to the east to Annapurna to the west.
Langtang Range is the closest mountain range to Nagarkot and because of that the mountain peaks of Langtang Massif are prominent mountain peaks seen from Nagarkot. To name a few, Langtang Himal, Dorje Lakpa, Gangchempo, Tsangbo Ri, etc. along with mountain peaks of Langtang range mountains like Ganesh Himal, Gauri Shankar, Salsungo, and Pabil Peak are some mountains seen from Nagarkot. Along with the magnificent views of Langtang Range, one can also spot Mt. Everest on the eastern side of the mountain panorama very far.
In addition to a breathtaking view of beautiful mountains, you will also get a comprehensive picture of the geography of the Kathmandu Valley. As you will be traveling along the Kathmandu Valley rim, you will get to know about the northeastern side of the valley ridge more comprehensively.
Nagarkot Chisapani Trek will take you through verdant forests, watershed areas, and hill ridges, so you will get an opportunity to get closer to Nature. The temple is ornated with sculptures and carvings showcasing the proficiency of artists, and sculptors, and a rich history of arts and crafts with the civilization dating back thousands of years back. You will be driven to Sundarijal, from where we will commence your trek. Following the large water pipe coming down from the Sundarijal reservoir, we will then begin our Nagarkot Chisapani Trek. We will then enter the Shivapuri national park and proceeding further we reach the village of Mulkharka. We will continue to walk passing through Tamang village until we reach Chisapani. As we reach Chisapani, we can see the magical views of Himalayas like Langtang Liring, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu and many others. Later in the evening we can have a wonderful sunset view behind the Himalayas. You will be checked in at hotel in Chisapani.
We will trek for approximately seven hours to reach Nagarkot today. We start by ascending through the lush forest for some time and later descend down to Jhule and Chauki Bhangyang. Walking further through villages and terraced fields we reach Kattike Bhanjyang. The trail then ascends up from Kattike Bhangyang to Nagarkot. Nagarkot offers superb views of Himalayan range on a clear day. We can enjoy the magical views of mountain peaks like, Langatang Lirung, Tsangbo Ri, Gangchempo, Salsungo, Ganesh Himal, Gaurishankar, Dorje Lhakpa, and even Mt. Everest. The sunset view in the evening is simply awesome. Overnight, we stay at a guest house in Nagarkot.

We wake up early in the morning to enjoy the magical sunrise view from Nagarkot. The sunrise view from Nagarkot is simply breathtaking. We spend some time in Nagarkot capturing the magical moments in our cameras. We later descend down to Changu Narayan via Telkot. On our way we can have the bird eye views of Bhaktapur and Kathmandu valley. The temple of Changu Narayan is believed to be one of the oldest temples in the valley built in 323 AD by King Hari Dutta Verma. The rich architecture and sculpture is the center of attraction of this ancient monument. The Changu Narayan temple is also listed in UNSECO world heritage site. We can see many smaller temples and idols in Changu Narayan. We will spend some time exploring the temple and later drive back to Kathmandu. (Service End Here).

The packing list for the Nagarkot Chisapani Trek is not as extensive as trekking done in higher altitudes. If you are trekking in winter make sure you have a warm down jacket, that will protect you from cold in Nagarkot. Anything you would wear during the specific season would do, just make sure that those clothes are comfortable though.
