Overview

Namtso Lake Trek involves trekking and driving through the Tibetan plateau. The program involves camping and hiking amidst spectacular mountains, up and downhill and it’s a great trip to get along with nature. The entire time of your tour you will be surrounded by nature and it’s a great feeling to watch the sunrise over Mt. Everest as well as drive past the great lake located at the top of the world in the Tibetan plateau. The tour is ideal for adventure enthusiasts and for those who wish to be closer to nature away from the hustle and bustle of city lives. The tour is a mixture of sightseeing and hiking with the city tour being done at the ancient city of Lhasa then drive to Lake Namtso located 4718 meters. Later on, cross the Tibet & Nepal border to eventually arrive at the Kathmandu city.

Itinerary

Arrive Lhasa and our local representative will meet/greet you at the airport then transfer to your hotel as booked. Full day is rest for acclimatization. Overnight at Hotel (Lhasa.

On the first day in Lhasa, you will be taken for the whole day. We start right after breakfast, where first begin by the Potala Palace, which is atop a hill and was first built King Songtsen Gompo and added to its magnificent by successive kings and Dalai to its refineries’. Then, we pay a visit to Norbulinka and Ramoche Monastery. Norbulinka means Treasure Park and is thought to be the largest man made garden in Tibet. Whereas the Ramche Monastery was first built in the 7th century by Hand architecture of China. We are then transferred by to our hotel.

Completing breakfast, we continue seeing other places in Lhasa. We begin by going to Sera Monastery, we means wild roses in Tibetan. It is a Monastery 5 Km to the north of Lhasa with a vast complex of a main assemble hall and three universities which has a capacity to house 4 to 5 thousand monks. Next we go to Jokhang Temple that is in the heart of Lhasa and has the most precious item, a golden Shakyamuni gifted by the Chinese Princess Wen Cheng on her wedding to King Songtsen Gompo. Eventually we go to Barkhor Market to check out what bargains of religious and culture items we might get of the culture of Tibet here. We then return to our hotel for the night.

Today begins the trek where after breakfast you will drive to Yangpachen along the Tibet-Qinghai highway then further to Damsung located at an altitude of 4130 meters. It’s a short hike today through the beautiful Tibetan meadow en-route visiting a monastery and camp. Overnight at Camp.

Today’s trek is for about 7-8 hours. The trail passes through glaciated valley and herder’s camp where the camp will be set. Overnight at Camp.

The trial descends to border basins and you will trek along green Tibetan meadows. Cross the Konga la at which point spectacular view of Namtso lake and Nyenchen Thangla ranges can be spotted. Overnight Camp.

Today pass along the nomadic camps and see their herds of animals hiking cross green carpet of grass. Lunch by the side of the lake and then follow the jeep trail till Tashi Do hermitage and camp at the end of the day. Overnight Camp.

Explore around Tashi Do Hermitage and Namtso Lake. Overnight Camp.

This day drive back to Lhasa via Yangbachen. Overnight at Hotel.

After breakfast, drive to the turquoise lake via Yamdrok to Gyangtse crossing Kampa La pass (5050m) and Karo la pass (5045m). Also visit Kubum Stupa and Pelkor Chode Monastery. Overnight at Hotel.

Drive to Shigatse en-route visit Shalu monastery Tashihunpo monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama who is considered the second highest Buddhist tutor in Tibet after Dalai Lama. Overnight at Hotel.

Today cross the Tsoula pass (4500m) and Gyatso la pass (5220m) and drive towards Shegar. En-route you will pay a visit to Sakya monastery. Overnight at Hotel.

This day drive to the world’s highest monastery ‘Rongbuk monastery’ located at an altitude of 5200 meters. To reach the monastery you will have to drive past Pangla pass (5200m). Overnight at Guest House.

Witness the spectacular panorama of the sunrise over Mt. Everest from Rongbuk which is just about 4 km away from the northern base camp of Everest. Afterwards, drive to Nyalam and rest for the night. Overnight at Hotel.

The final day of the tour and you will drive from Nyalam to Zhangmu, the border town between Nepal and Tibet. En-route visit the Milarepa cave, After clearing the immigration formalities at the border drive towards Kathmandu over a lush green landscape.

Clothing
The climate of the Tibet fluctuates continuously so it is better to carry warm clothes. If you just want to trek or tour at a lower altitude, fleece jackets and pants are enough. While for a higher altitude trekking, down jackets are necessary.
