Youngest Children to reach the Everest Base Camp

Amid the time when foreign tourists are least interested in traveling to Nepal due to the devastating earthquake of April 25th, a record has been set on Monday by two brave children from India in becoming the youngest climbers to set foot the Mt. Everest Base Camp. The expedition organizer has confirmed the boy to be a five year old and his sister eight from Gwalior-India, Master Kandarp Sharma and Miss Ritvika Sharma respectively. Both of the children were trekking along with their parents to the base camp. Not only have they held the individual records of being the youngest boy and girl to trek to the base camp but being the youngest brother and sister duo to accomplish the base camp, their father Bhupdra said. The family might have also become the first to reach the base camp of Mt. Everest.

Master Kandarp- 5 years & 10 months, is first-grader while his sister, Ritvika-8 years & 11 months is studying in class four at the Little Angles School, Gwalior, India. The previous record was held by Harshit, again an Indian boy aged 5 years & 11 months. As per the expedition leader, their mother, Mamta and the two children also reached Kalapattar located at an altitude of 5,555 meters. Kalapattar is higher than the highest peaks of three continents – Mont Blanc (4,810 m) in Europe, Vinson Massif (4,810 m) in Antarctica, and Puncak Jaya (4,884 m) in Australasia.  The family had reached Lukla on August 2nd to start off the trek and currently descending down from base camp and will soon arrive Kathmandu as well as organize press meet for the same. The trek leader said the expedition was organize in order to send a positive message to the world that Everest Region is safe and the trekking trail is not destroyed by the earthquake. They will also try to get the childrens names in the Guinness Book of World Records as well as in Indias Limca Book of Records for becoming the youngest climbers to reach the base camp.
